My story

Michael Gregory

My name is Michael, and I live in Hampshire in England, but work in London. I have always liked the Eurovision - I can remember as far back as the mid-70s when we 1st got colour TV, watching Olivia-Newton John represent the UK.Eurovision has become a British culture, for better or worse, and I think it reflects Britains on/off love affair with Europe itself! Back in 1974, Britain had just joined the EU, we had 'Jeux sans frontieres' from across Europe, and Eurovision was part of that great excitement. I'm one of the minority in the UK (so it seems anwyay) that believes that Europe is a great place, and we should be a bigger part of it! Nowadays most people in the Uk associate Eurovision more with Terry Wogans famous commentarys, then anything else, which is a bit sad! When you look some of the great songs that featured in 2006, including the great winning tune, you realise that the Contest does bring together some great acts for just one night. And then theres the voting!
