My story

Rich Landon

My Name is Rich Landon and I have been a fan of the Eurovision Song Contest since 1977, when I watched the contest at home with my parents. I was 10 years old at the time and was not allowed to stay up and watch the whole contest so I listened to the remainder of the show in my bedroom on the radio. I remember the excitement of the voting and the winning song by Marie Myriam stayed in my head for a long time. I became hooked.

In 1984, we purchased our first video recorder and ever since, I have recorded the ESC Preview shows and the ESC's. I watch them regularly and never tire of hearing my favourite entries. It was a shame that the BBC stopped broadcasting the preview shows after 1993 as often you got a different and sometimes better interpretation of the song.

I always vowed to attend a ESC then next time the show was hosted by the UK and applied for tickets to the 1998 contest in Birmingham. Unfortunately, I was not successful in obtaining tickets to the final but did attend the National Indoor Arena at Birmingham for the rehearsals and throroughly enjoyed it.

I am looking forward to this years contest and already I think there are some very strong contenders this year although last year will take some beating. I particularly like Albania, Switzerland and Andorra so far.
