My story
Paul Murray
My first Eurovision was Rome 91, I loved it!! I loved the chaos of that particular contest, the dodgy set, the presenters, the stage hands walking all over the set, the tie break at the end, the show over running massively !!! it was so camp, from then on I was hooked!!! About half way through the show that year I realised that I should be recording it so I could watch it over and over, but after the show was over when I went to play it back I realised I had recorderd the other side!! I was gutted! and I had to wait a whole year for the next one. Luckily in 2000, I got in contact with some one who I could buy previous contests from so I brought the 1990 and 1991 from him so I could re live those growling lions at the side of the stage once more! I now have all contests on tape from 1990 to present, plus lots of old song for europes and stuff. If anyone wants to trade or have copies of stuff let me know..
My fave songs are..
1. Je n'ai que mon ame - Natasha st Pier, France 2001
2. Love Shine a light - Katrina and the waves, UK 1997
3. Une Banc un arbre un rue - Severine, Moncaco 1973
4. Il Faut du Temp - Sandrine, France 2002
5. C'est le dernier qui a parle, qui a raison - Amina, France 1991
6. Come Back - Jessica Garlick, UK 2002
7. Thane Erotas - Marlain, Cyprus 1999
8. Fly on the wings of love - The Olsen Brothers, Denmark 2000
9. Fiume Di Parole - Jalisse - Italy 1997
10. Vrede - Ruth Jacott, Netherlands, 1993
As you can see, I really love ballads, but I also really love the pop songs, Waterloo, Making Your mind up, Touch My Fire, OOH AAH just a little bit, Once in a lifetime, Solo, Diva, there has been some really great songs, too many to list.
My favorite contests in terms of the show, presentation etc are,
1.Birmingham 98, British is best, was a slick show, great set and the first of the big arena shows
2. Roma 91 (it was my first, and it was so bad it was good)
3. Dublin 97 (because we won!)
4. Copenhagen 01, because I had a great night watching it and it had my most favorite song in.
5. Malmo 92, (the year after the chaos of 91, it showed me how Eurovision should be done)
Top 3 songs that should have represented the UK
1. One Gift of love- Dear Jon - 1995 was a great song, would have walked it had it got to Dublin
2. I need you - Deuce - 1995 (Buck Fizz for the 90's great pop tune)
3. Help Me - 2003 (cant remember the singers name, this was a great song and had it gone to Riga we would never have got NIL points)
cheers all
ps, Italy, we miss you
