My story

Jimmy Kempson

Started watching Eurovision in 1965 when I was 3 years old. Apparently there is a recording of me singing the first Irish Eurovision entry, "Walking the Streets In The Rain" at that age but my uncle had it and I have never heard it myself!!

Have enjoyed Eurovision for 40 years now. In the mid 1970's I started recording the previews on audio tape and I still have tapes going back to 1978. In 1987 I started to video tape the show and have every Eurovision final on Video tape from 1987 up until 2003. I purchased the DVD in '04 & '05 so I have now stopped taping the show.

I am married with 2 young boys and my eldest is starting to show an interest in Eurovision too...... I suppose as I often play the CD's in the car he doesn't have much choice in the matter!!

My favourite song ever in the history of Eurovision is "In Your Eyes" from 1993 which proved to me that a class song can actually win. Other all time faves include France 1969, Monaco 1971 and Spain 1973. as you can probably guess I have a strong preference for ballads although my favourite up tempo song ever in Eurovision is the wonderful "Die For You" by Antique which really should have given Greece it's first Eurovision winner back in 2001.

I host a Eurovision party each year at my home which is usually great fun and a real social occassion which has now continued for more years than I care to remember.

I enjoy this site but am saddened by some of the people who visit it and the comments they make from time to time. To me Eurovision is a fun event and should remain totally outside the political arena. Although I have to admit that neighbourly voting has been quite prevelant, especially over the last few years, overall the songs which come out on top tend to be the best in the contest with a few exceptions.

Enjoy!!
