Well, what to say about the ESC ? It s simply an unique event which of course knows stronger and weaker contests. But it s still the only real pan European tv event. The next ESC might see 40 participating countries - who would have thought about it, after the ESC started with just 7 participants in the mid 50s ? More and more countries joined and the ESC became an important part in the live many people.

For idealists, the ESC helps to unite people from different countries and to learn more about the musical life of many different countries. Others simply enjoy the competition, the most exciting part, which makes the ESC more than " just " a music show. Where else are all countries,- small,medium,or big - equal when it comes to the famous voting ? The national broadcasters may hope win and host the ESC to present the best side of their country to Europe and the world.

For the singers, a ESC participation is quite tough - there s only one winner out of 40 countries. A second or third winner - like we ll know from the Olympics - doesn`t officially excist. Neverthless, the chance of winning, and the honour to represent a whole country always made known and less known singers compete at the ESC. Some winners became world wide known stars, others simply enjoyed their 3 minutes of fame.
